New Products/ Favourites!

I was going to wait until the end of the month for this post, but I couldn’t wait!

I’ve purchased a couple new products that I have either recently come to love or have re purchased.

*Disclaimer: These thoughts are my personal opinion and has no reflection of my employment at Sephora.

Stila: Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick – (Fiery) $29.00 CAD

I used to use Maybelline 24 Hour Superstar Lipstick, my issue with it was that it would start balling up and sticking to itself on my lips after 30 minutes, so my hunt began for a new long wearing lipstick. Stila’s has great staying power and the only time I feel I have to touch up is after a meal. I have worn this the last 4 days (Every day since I purchased it) and I have received SO many compliments on it. It’s a beautiful deep red. It looks good on fair and tanned skin. My next colour will be patina which is a dusty rose, unfortunately it’s so popular it’s been sold out.

*In my instagram section you’ll see a post with me wearing it with a masquerade mask I wore for a work meeting this morning.

Screen Shot 2014-11-16 at 9.11.12 PMToo Faced: La Belle Carousel $59.00 CAD

I was having a hard time deciding between this set or the “Everything Nice” pallet. Both sets are beautiful and highly pigmented. I chose this one because while I don’t typically wear shimmer shadows anymore, I was in love with the colours. “Boxes & Bows” and “Sugar Plum Fairy” are so pretty (As are many of the colours). The biggest surprise for me was the “Better than Sex” Mascara. I have tried many “designer” mascaras in the past and they’ve all fallen short in my opinion to the $9.00 “Voluminious” that has been mentioned previously. I really like the formulation “Better than Sex” and the volume and length I get from it. I’ll be purchasing the full size when the mini runs out.
*Word of warning: “Luminous Peach” Blush is very pigmented, so cautiously build it until your ideal colour.*

tarte: Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara $24.00 CAD

I was skeptical of this mascara, the wand is small and isn’t as fancy as other high end mascaras but it works. The mascara doesn’t clump or flake, it isn’t dramatic, but it lengthens and separates – you can build it up until you get some extra volume, but it creates more of a natural lash. It strengthens and hydrates your lashes while you wear it. I love this mascara on days I want a natural look (especially in summer).

Repurchases:

Josie Maran: Argan Milk $70.00 CAD

I love the original Argan Oil but this one extremely hydrating and works well under my makeup. I have oily/combo skin and my foundation doesn’t move over it. For those with dry skin, it’ll give your skin a nice glow under your foundation. I use this both AM and PM. All I can say is: It works great!

Stila: Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer $57.00 CAD

While I liked Makeup Forever HD Foundation, right now I’m loving the Stay All Day line. I haven’t used the brush it comes with yet, but I love that the lid comes with a concealer that is the same shade so it doesn’t compete against the foundation colour. The concealer is thick and holds nicely on the skin. I apply the foundation by spraying my real techniques brush with Urban Decay’s “All nighter” spray, then stipple the foundation all over my face and finally buff it into my skin. It creates a flawless finish, and once it dries… it’s not going anywhere.

Josie Maran

Josie Maran: Argan Cleansing Oil $38.00 CAD

I wrote about this oil in my March Favourites. Over the last couple months I’ve tried other oils and gels, this one still works the best in my opinion. It’s gentle on the skin and breaks up the makeup very easily. I follow with Philosophy: Purity Made Simple (I’ve purchased 2 more since my March Favourites).

I’ll probably have a couple more posts in the coming weeks on new products I come across as I learn more about products and try them for myself!

I’m Baaackkkk

Okay WOW!

I haven’t posted in MONTHS, when letting my blog go a couple days without a post used to bug me.

Granted I’ve had a bit of a hectic year some of which I will not share – but I am going to try to write again, update anyone out there reading and hopefully post much more in the coming weeks (though, probably not every day).

So where have I been?

Well the year started out with the company I had been working for, restructuring – giving me two options; move to part time, or take a severance package – I opted with the package. Three days later, I sold my motorcycle and four days after that, I went to Florida for a week since I had never been able to take advantage of a last minute travel deal before.

March took me to Washington D.C. to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play.

Fast forward to May when I finally got another job (part time). I left that job for another and I recently left that job for my current one… one I love… Sephora.

Now in between these highlights, I kept busy (to name a few):

– I applied for other jobs

– I got my gun licence and first aid certificate to apply for a job.

– I travelled to NYC

– I travelled to San Francisco

It’s been a busy year so far, with a lot of high-highs and a few lows and with all the instability, I just couldn’t find the will to write. But it’s almost the end of the year and I can’t wait for 2015.

Back to Sephora though:

For those of you who don’t know, I went to school for Cosmetic Techniques and Management, I never really did anything with that as I had a stable job, but everything happens for a reason and now I am working for a company where I go to work excited, where I can do bold makeup if I want and still fit right in. One that also allows me to feed my makeup obsession…. So you can look forward to some makeup favourites coming soon ;).

Sorry to have neglected this site, but I’m back now!

To see what I’ve been up to you can follow my instagram.

Also check out my friend’s blog if you’d like!

I’ll post in a couple days with the things I’ve been loving this fall!

Let me know if you want to see anything in particular!

March Favourites ♡

Hey Guys!

So, as you saw in my last post, I went shopping and got a couple new products! Well, those products turned into a couple more products and those turned into an overhaul of my skin care routine.

That being said, most of my march favourites are mainly skin care (because I’ve fallen in love with them and they’ve changed my skin drastically). My skin is still not perfect but it is improving.

So here it is… my march favourites, I’ll leave links and prices (in CAD)… hope you enjoy!

Skin Care

pink pmd

PMD ($179.00)- This little personal micro-dermabraison tool has become a once a week ritual. I’ve only had it 3 weeks so I still haven’t received all of the benefits this little device has to offer. In 3 short weeks though, my cheeks have become smoother, and my scarring slightly lighter. (I have taken before and after photos, which in a couple weeks I’ll do a before and after update)

When purchasing it I looked online for a code (benefits of online shopping) and Celeb25 takes 25% off! (saves on shipping too!)

clarisonic

Clarisonic Mia 2 ($175.00) – I cannot wash my face without this now (why did I wait so long!?), it has improved my skin texture and makes my skin feel so clean and refreshed! Initially, it may seem a bit  pricey but well worth the money. I actually look FORWARD to washing my face and know I am actually washing it, not just spreading makeup around! I highly recommend this to ANYONE and EVERYONE. They have different cleansing heads for different skin types, so you can definitely find one to meet your needs. Cannot say enough good things about this product.

Side note: I didn’t want to try this initially because I’ve tried knockoffs before, they don’t work and make your skin worse (without ever improving it). Those knockoffs were $20 so I didn’t want to try something for almost 9x more money. With a 2 year warranty, you cannot go wrong :) You will go through a skin purging faze, where for a week or 2, your skin will get worse before it gets better. It does get better and your makeup does go on like butter – I PROMISE. You can also buy it HERE with a bigger selection of colours and patterns  ♡

The 2 tools listed above, seem like a lot of money, but the only thing you need to replace are the heads on them, so you’re not spending that $175 every couple of months.

Tip: When ordering your PMD, you are paying shipping, so when I ordered, I ordered a couple replacement heads so I only paid one shipping fee.

These are in the order I use them:

Josie Maran

Josie Maran Cleansing Oil ($38.00) – I don’t use this every day, only the days I wear makeup. It’s gentle on my skin so I’m not scrubbing the makeup off my eyes and it gets it ALL. It’s a refreshing scent, avoid your mouth like the plague, if it gets in your mouth (always seems to get in mine) and doesn’t go away for a couple minutes. As a product though, I LOVE IT!

s407304-main-hero

Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser– 16 oz ($42.00) – I started using my Clarisonic with Kate Somerville’s Daily Detox. I liked it as a cleanser but I wasn’t a huge fan of the packaging – it was both convenient but inconvenient ( the product comes out from where you stand the product). Unless you clean your sink EVERY DAY, with product, it’s not overly sanitary. So while inline at Sephora, I saw a sample of this Purity Made Simple cleanser, I wanted to try it (quite a few YouTubers use it). It smells clean and fresh, is extremely gentle on the skin, and has kept my acne in check. They have many different sizes, so you can try it before committing to the bigger sizes.

s1229640-main-hero

Boscia Balancing Facial Tonic ($29.00) – I use this after washing my face and using my PMD. I like it because you can either spray it directly on your face, or spray on a cotton round and then wipe your face. I use the cotton round after using my PMD (to ensure I am wiping off the dead skin) but after washing my face I just spray on my face. It is so refreshing and hydrates my skin, I can notice a difference when I don’t use it.

s1121797-main-hero

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil ($58.00) – I have both the original and light, however I prefer the original. I use the light when I travel because it’s in a smaller bottle. this absorbs beautifully into the skin, doesn’t leave it oily and by the time I wake up, it’s completely absorbed. I have oily skin, so I was hesitant to use it, but it tricks your skin into thinking you’re producing enough oil, so it doesn’t have to compensate (I had this idea wrong for YEARS, always trying to dry out my oil). Now my skin it still hydrated, without being oil slicked.  (I only use this before bed, it moves too much during the day).

s1495860-main-hero

Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel ($55.00) – I use this in between my PMD treatments. It’s gentle enough, it doesn’t burn your skin but it buffs away dead skin, leaving your skin so smooth and lovely. You can see the skin and product balling up (sounds gross but it isn’t that bad). I got a sample of this in a skin care kit but I am going to buy the full size – my sample size lasted about 6 or 7 uses. LOVE!

s1463801-main-hero

Glam Glow Youthmud 0.5 oz ($21.00) – I got this for my birthday, from my sister. This is what started my new obsession with my skin care (before using Michael Todd, I would buy $6 drug store face wash that dried my skin out like you wouldn’t believe). She gave me the smaller size because the regular size is $76.00… it’s pricey but I LOVE this mask, you can feel it and see it extracting oil and dirt from your pores and your skin is way brighter after using it. If you don’t want to shell out that much money, your local Sephora may be able to give you a sample. You won’t be disappointed!

MAKEUP

IMG_9814

Nivea Lip Butter ($2.99-3.99) – I’m OBSESSED, I received the “Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss” one in my stocking for Christmas and I immediately fell in love. So while I was in CVS in D.C, I saw the “Caramel Cream Kiss” and “Raspberry Rose Kiss” I immediately grabbed it. They last for a couple hours, and are so hydrating without having to constantly apply it!

Apart from the benefits it gives your lips – they smell AMAZINGGGGG

When I apply it before bed, I wake up to super hydrated lips!

s1591643-main-hero

Divergent Multi-Piece Collector’s Kit ($71.00) – THIS IS A LIMITED KIT  it won’t be in stock long, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this product, the colours are pigmented, lovely, and comes in 3 different eyeshadow palettes that come with a base, crease, highlight, transition and sparkle colour. They’re small enough you can fit it in your purse, or mix and match. It also comes with 4 lip glosses, a double ended brush (cheek and crease brush) it ALSO comes with 2 blushes, a highlight and bronzer. You WANT to try to get this before it is sold for good!

s1284249-main-hero

Acqua di Gioia ($99.00) – This is a light fresh scent that I LOVE anytime of year. It’s floral without being over powering, and light. So hard to describe, but it’s my favourite.

Hope you enjoyed my favourites, let me know which ones you use or want to try!!

New Products!

Hey everyone!!

It’s been a busy month, but I currently have extra time on my hands, so I am pretty much back! haha.

I went to Florida on a last minute deal at the beginning of the month – it was SO much fun, cheap and sporadic, I would go again in a heartbeat and I will be going to Washington D.C. to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play mid March, so I’ll probably do a combined post about that with pictures!

Now onto the post:

Over the last couple months for my skin I’ve been using the Michael Todd True organics skin care line and it worked pretty well. I liked it because it’s 97% organic, however I had a couple cons to go along with it- though it was no where near as bad as in the past, I would still breakout, I’d have to order it online, and the shipping time would vary – so it might come in a couple days one time, and 2 weeks the next. So after doing some research, I’ve decided to switch over to the Kate Somerville line.

Now for the exciting (to me) news!

Along with switching to Kate Somerville, I’ve decided to invest in some other skin care products I’ve never tried, but heard amazing things about!

clarisonic

The first one being ClarisonicIf you haven’t heard of it, it’s apparently AMAZING, especially if you have skin like mine (acne prone) or if you just want to make your skin glow. I’ve only used it twice so far, and have taken before pictures (so the review WILL come!) I’ll give it a couple weeks, because apparently skin goes through a purging faze, where it breaks out pretty badly for a couple weeks, so once it goes through that (I’ll take pictures as well) I’ll review it. So far, I like how my clean my skin feels after using it.

pmd

The second product (that I just ordered today, so I have NOT tried it yet) is the PMD (Personal Micro Derm System) I am SO excited to try it, as I have heard amazing things about it. As I mentioned before in my skin care post, I used to have reallllllly bad acne, which has left my skin with scarring as well as a very uneven skin texture (has sort of what I call, divots), which this device should help with. So I’m VERY excited to try that!

I’ve linked to the websites and pictures to the devices I personally purchased, I’d say I’ll probably have my review up by the end of march!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, if you’ve tried any of the products, please let me know you’re experience and if you liked them!

Friday Haul

Hey guys! Sorry this post is so late, I was out with my mom most of the day; which is why I’ll be posting what I ended up getting today. It’s not a lot but I thought I’d share!

IMG_7514

From Bath & Body Works, I purchased “Marshmallow Fireside” and “Vanilla Snowflake”. Vanilla Snowflake was one of my favourite scents from last winter, these are light but warm scents. Marshmallow Fireside smells just like it sounds, the Vanilla Snowflake smells like Vanilla with a hint of light mint.

IMG_7515

The Moroccan Oil paddle brush is one of my favourite items, my last one lasted about 3 or 4 years, Made from ionic properties, this brush cuts down drying time/ static and frizz and comes with a hair parting tool at the bottom (the orange bit can be taken out)

Style it!

If I were ever stranded on an island… 2 of the 3 items on the list would HAVE to be with me. Okay, they wouldn’t HAVE to be but if my hair dries naturally, it resembles a cross between a poodle and mop.

So my list of favourite hair tools are listed below! (I am confident, if you try them, you’ll love them!)
Don’t forget – Christmas is right around the corner ;)

**************************************************************************************************************

1. Hair Dryer:

T3 Featherweight 2

s1444751-main-hero

This dryer is so quiet and light weight. The day I switched over from my old dryer to this one, I got so many compliments on my hair; it was softer and shinier.

2. Straightener:

GHD Gold Professional 1 inch Styler

s1310580-main-hero

Gold ceramic plates – giving you a smooth sleek style. If you’re like me, the auto shut off comes in VERY handy!

Curling Wand:

AMIKA:  4P Interchangeable Barrel Curler Set

s1433523-main-hero

This curling iron makes curling my hair a breeze! This set comes with a glove along with a digital temperature adjustment, so you can make it as hot as you want! This curling iron is so great, the curls stay intact until the next day – without falling.

Whether you are looking for yourself or someone else, these 3 products should definitely be considered!

My Favourites ♡

Hey Everyone!
I have gathered a list of a few of my FAVOURITE products, that I cannot be without in my makeup drawer, hope you enjoy it! The majority of these products were purchased from Sephora. I have to admit, one of my all time favourite brands is Urban Decay, with Make Up For Ever in close second.
This is the Vice Palette 2, it’s more of a colourful palette from Urban Decay. The reason Urban Decay is a go to for me (and some people may disagree), I find their product is highly pigmented, so you don’t go through it as quickly and it lasts longer than most palettes (especially with the eyeshadow potion and setting spray – you’ll see those in a sec ;) )
Urban Decay’s Naked Palette has more neutral colours (if you want more of a natural look) with a light shimmer, brightening your eyes. I’ve had this palette for about 1.5 years and use it quite often (as you can tell). Urban decay also has a Naked 2 Palette with a couple different colours, as well as a Naked Basics Palette that has neutral matte colours if you choose to forego the shimmer.
This was one of my luckiest pulse purchases (I’ll admit, I’m notorious for those). I have very oily skin, and after a couple of hours, chances of my makeup looking the same isn’t even a question. If you have that issue, I highly recommend this product for you, my makeup stays put! This is Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. Urban Decay has 2 others as well, I recommend either testing them all or reading their description to decide which one will work best on your needs and skin type!
Last, but certainly not least, for Urban Decay; is their Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Used under eyeshadow, it helps dramatically prevent creasing (my eyeshadow used to crease after about 2 hours). This helps set a base so the eyeshadow appears more pigmented while helping it last. With the tinted potions you can either use them under eyeshadow, or by themselves as a quick brightening tool.
My Favourite Foundation and Power is Make Up For Ever’s High Definition Foundation and their Pro Finish Powder. The liquid foundation blends extremely well into the skin and doesn’t cake, so you barely notice you’re wearing makeup. I use the Pro finish powder to set the foundation, but also use it on it’s own and it has great coverage for a powder. *Just a tip for the liquid foundation – once you get close to being out (or when the pump starts pumping), do not throw it out! You still have about about 30-40 uses by taking a makeup brush and scraping the bottom and sides! :)
You Typically only need 1-2 pumps for your entire face to have great coverage!
If you’re looking for a good contour/ highlight palette, I personally like Make Up For Ever’s Sculpting Kit.
One of my favourite blushes is Nars’ Super Orgasm, its a nice pink with a bit of gold sparkle, to add a nice glow to your face. That being said, you will want to use it sparingly- as if you use too much, the sparkle will make you look like you’ve been rummaging around your christmas decorations.
Like I’ve said in my previous post, I am not necessarily kind to my hair, but this makes my hair feel SO much better! I’ve tried a couple different brands of “Argan oil” but it didn’t even come CLOSE to how Moroccan Oil makes my hair feel, shop around to get the best price- a lot of hair salons mark it up ridiculous amounts. You can either purchase a small or large bottle.
Who ever said you had to pay an arm and a leg for great mascara? I have tried probably 20 different mascaras over the years, some from the drug store, many from Sephora at $20+. To this day L’Oreal’s Voluminous Carbon Black mascara is still my favourite. I have sworn by this mascara for about 7 or 8 years and it doesn’t break the bank! :)
Last but not least is NYX’s EBPB01 one colour fits all eyebrow pencil & highlighter. I purchase mine from Target. If your eyebrows are lighter, apply lightly, if you’re going for a darker look, apply a littler more ;)
Hope this post helped in some way, these are just my personal favourites, if you have any questions, or requests, just comment and I’ll try my best to answer!
